Inspirational Women in Computing

5.30pm for 6pm start, Thursday, 15th October 2009, Informatics Forum, University of Edinburgh

Are you an undergraduate or postgraduate student studying a computing related subject? Or a young professional working in IT?

The Edinburgh University Hoppers group (http://hoppers.inf.ed.ac.uk) is inviting you to an evening with inspirational women in computing on 15th October 2009!

Our main speaker is Karen Winney from Procter and Gamble. Karen is the Business Services Director, where she heads IT and shared services for the UK, Ireland and Nordic. She will be sharing her experiences in working as a senior manager in the IT industry. In addition, Karen Petrie, from Dundee University, will also be present to talk about her experience working in academia, as well as her role as President of the BCS Womens group. We also have three further speakers; each from Barclays Capital, Procter and Gamble and Google.

In addition, the evening will include with a panel session on "computing careers for women" - where you can ask our speakers their top tips for achieving career success!

As if that's not enough, there will also be a free buffet dinner, plus networking drinks kindly sponsored by Procter and Gamble, Barclays Capital and the School of Informatics.

Please join us for an evening of inspirational talks and engaging discussions to help you get the job that you want! Places are first come, first serve!

We're just a bunch of ladies, doing Computer Science, that go by the name of Edinburgh University Hoppers. This because, well, we're at Edinburgh University and Grace Hopper was one pretty awesome Computer Scientist (compilers, anyone?).

We support Women in IT, because we think they're kinda cool. Being a girl in such a male dominated place (there's less than 15% of us) is not a scary thing! We'd like to encourage more girls to join this field and for those already in it, provide some tips, tricks and kick-ass event
